Five steps, several families
Read left to right. The middle word links two neighbouring characters. All entries come from the list; lower levels shorten paths.
How to use the map and how it was made
Start with one family and learn 3–5 words. Click a character in a learned word, explore another family, then try to retrace the path from memory. Themes organize starting characters; a full family can lead to other themes.
The map shows shared characters, not historical etymology. A whole word's meaning cannot always be inferred from its parts: 东西 means a thing, and 子 is often a suffix. The word's pinyin takes precedence over the character's general reading.
Basis: official CTI / CLEC syllabus from November 2025, vocabulary pages 77–101 (PDF pages 80–104). Secondary transcription: hsk-2025-data. All 1,000 IDs, spellings and pinyin checked against the PDF.
The explanations and memory aids are AI-produced educational material, not an official translation. Use pinyin with pronunciation audio and example sentences.
The map, text exercises and locally saved recordings work offline when the page is opened together with its JS/CSS files. Listening uses prerecorded audio and needs no key. Only recognizing the learner's answers needs internet and an OpenAI key. Use HTTPS on phones. The full filterable table is in the adjacent file Mapa_HSK_1-3_PL.xlsx; source lists and PDF extracts are in the project root.
